Bristol Gown Update
Ok, so I've added more to my dress diary at trishstuff.com
The cliff notes version, smock is almost done. Corset now has shoulder strap lacing holes and may be getting too big (?). And fabric stash usage (Yea!!!).

Intro
I was going to put this in the Renaissance sewing circle, but it got a little long so I decided to post a short one there and the long one here...
Well Met!
At the Renaissance Festival and SCA I'm Lady Elynor Grey (I don't have a persona name for F&I except that I'm from the farm down the road and I've come to see if the men in camp need anything mended). MiRF is my home fair but I really really really like Bristol, but it's too far away to go every year (so says my DH). I like big fancy dresses so I tend more towards upper class, though I was caught by the Bruegel bug a while back...I like to have things that are very bling-tastic. I sew all of my own re-enacting clothes except stockings and shoes.
I enjoy the medieval/renaissance and my husband puts up with it because I put up with his F&I. There's not much for me to do with F&I unless I get over my allergies, and I want to dress like a man (no) or finally be able to cook, which I can't and I have absolutely no inclination for. I sew...and Illuminate, and do calligraphy, not exactly 1750s wilderness material. He doesn't really "do" much but like to play with reproduction weapons and talk about tatics and play with little lead men so he doesn't have much to do at the Ren Fair & SCA. It's a comprimise for each of us. Eh. So I make our clothes (ok, so I make my F&I clothes, and he makes most of his with help from his unit because I hate set in sleeves, and pants with lots of little pieces), but I haven't had a lot of time since CJ was born, but I find a little bit here and there.
Ok, so CJ is my son who is almost a year old, he already has a doublet, hose, slops, a jerkin, shirt, hat & shoes. And because he looked so cute and I put a bit of effort into his outfit, (brocade and leather are fun!) I had his 9 month pictures taken in it. Oh, and he has sleeves for his doublet and Daddy has been waiting on 6-7 years for his (actually I keep loosing Daddy's sleeves before they get finished, usually because he pisses me off and I work on another project). Bella, our now 5 years old, 3 pound, poodle also has a few outfits including a brocade princess dress & hat, an embroidered wool jacket with our SCA barony's badge, and a uniform coat that matches Daddy's F&I uniform. This is in addition to her regular clothes. Oh, and she is too small for every extra small sized pattern I've found. But most XS or XXS dog clothes will fit her. She's the only one in our family that takes small anything. Even CJ came out big, too big for most outfits marked "newborn", 9 1/2 lb @ birth, c-section thank goodness.
CJ's outfits that I have in que are all around size 4. This is A) so I have enough time to finish making them. B) so he doesn't grow out of them before he wears them out too much. He's tall for his age (I'm the runt in my husband's family and in my Dad's family, I'm tall-ish for my Mom's side) so the size 4 is good, with big cuffs & tucks & deep seams to let out.
Stuff
Thursday I pulled a muscle in my back while trying to pick up the cute one, er the cute big one... Bella's not big enough to pull a muscle when picking her up unless you're in your 120's. Very very painful. Wore my Victorian corset to help immobilize area and heal. Works so very well. I didn't use a 'bethan simply because my Vic' feels & looks better with modern clothes... So I didn't get much more done...but I do just need to finish neckline, cuffs and hem of smock, then add lacing for straps of corset. Yippie!
I just added 1 more photo here...the cute big one...
